We provide expert services to support and empower victims of violence within a network of partnerships with all necessary role players.

The Western Cape Women’s Shelter Movement was founded in 2009. affiliated to National Shelter Movement of South Africa (NSM)
Our vision is to build a strong movement of shelter organisations that enable inclusive sheltering services to address the impact of GBVF.

The vision of the WSM is to build a strong movement of shelter organisations that enable inclusive sheltering services to address the impact of GBVF.

WSM provides a platform for member organisations to build strong relationships, share knowledge and expertise that enable them to provide comprehensive, inclusive shelter services to survivors and their children; and also to network, advocate and lobby local, provincial, national and international stakeholders in advancing legislation, policy, funding  and capacity building on GBVF and inclusive sheltering in SA.

  •  To strengthen the management of shelters, ensuring effective and inclusive service to delivery that is survivor-centred and rights based;
  • To ensure that existing laws and policies relating to sheltering and response services to victims of GBVF and human trafficking are well drafted, aligned, comprehensively costed and resourced;
  • To develop laws, policies and practices through coordinated collective advocacy and lobbying where there are gaps in relation to sheltering victims of GBVF and human trafficking;
  • To strengthen the capacity of shelter organisation members through engaging in meetings to build relationships, knowledge sharing and training;
  • To increase the efficiency of shelter organisations by co-creating a framework for monitoring, evaluating service delivery and a standard of accountability
